National Roundabout Conference

Last Modified Date: 8/13/2009

TRB is sponsoring the National Roundabout Conference on May 22-25, 2005, in Vail, Colorado.  The use of roundabouts as an alternative to stop or signal-controlled intersections is advancing in the United States. Local governments and state transportation agencies are rapidly moving forward to develop policies and procedures for managing roundabout decisions, design, and operation. The conference will examine--from both the U.S. and international perspectives--the deployment of roundabouts at the regional and local levels, the science and application of roundabouts, and more.  Mr. Brian O’Neill, President, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety will be a keynote speaker at the conference.  A special field workshop in techniques and cues used by pedestrians who are blind at roundabouts is planned.  Media wishing to cover this conference should contact Phil Demosthenes for information on limited free media registration.
