Energy Futures and Urban Air Pollution: Challenges for China and the United States

Last Modified Date: 9/29/2009

Development, Security, and Cooperation, a unit of the National Academies’ Policy and Global Affairs Division (PGA) and the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) have released a report designed to assist Chinese cities in assessing their challenges associated with increased energy demands, managing the growth in motor vehicle use, and improving air quality, all while maintaining high rates of economic growth.  The report also identifies lessons learned from case studies of four cities (Pittsburgh and Los Angeles from the United States, and Huainan and Dalian from China), that examine key technological and institutional challenges and opportunities, and highlight areas for continued cooperation between the United States and China.  PGA, like TRB, is a division of the National Academies, which include the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.
