The 2013 series marks the 50th year of TRB’s peer-reviewed journal, which debuted as the Highway Research Record in 1963; became the Transportation Research Record in 1974, with Number 480; and added the subtitle, Journal of the Transportation Research Board, in 2000, with Number 1653. In all, TRB has published more than 25,000 papers in volumes of the Record and continues to build on its tradition of disseminating research findings to advance transportation.

How can I gain access to the TRR Journal Online?
Anyone is eligible to use this resource to review the abstracts of any paper in the database. However, to access the full text of papers, you must be a subscriber or an employee of an organizational TRB sponsor. Employees of state departments of transportation and other organizational sponsors of TRB receive free access to the full text of every paper as part of their organization’s sponsorship package. The system provides access to this group of users through the authentication of their Internet Protocol or IP address. Therefore, free access to the full text of papers is only provided to employees when they are working from a computer that is part of their organization’s secure network. Employees working from home will be able to search and view abstracts of papers, but they will not have access to the full text of the papers unless they are on a virtual network of the TRB sponsoring organization. For those who do not have free access, TRB has established individual and organizational subscription packages. An order form with package pricing details is available online.

Remote access is allowable to authorized users only if they are authenticated through a secure network.
* An “institution” is all parts of an organization, including colleges and schools within the subscribing university and regional offices that report to the subscribing organization.

How can I set up an alert so I am notified when papers I'm interested in are added to the database?
To use the personalized features of this site like alerting, you need to log in if you are already registered or register a new account. You can do this from the TRR Online search page. To set up alerts, you need to create a list of results that you want to be alerted for in the future. For example, for a table of contents (TOC) alert, use the “Browse by Issue” feature. Save the list using the “save” icon at the top right of the list. Follow the prompts for renaming, making labels for organizing, etc. Your e-mail address will self-populate. At the bottom of the Save this List page you can register for the alert. Another type of alert can be for a search term, e.g., “Wheel.” Search on the word and save the results using the “save” icon. Again, you can register for the alert at the bottom of the Save page. When a paper is posted with that search term, you will be alerted by e-mail.
